In advance of Warner Bros new headquarters; Second Century where 22 individual WB business units would be collected together from 12 buildings to 2 new buildings. Many of the business units have bold iconic brands and many internally focused with no outward brand expression.
The lab was conceived as a tool to showcase the history of Warner Bros, show how the individual brands could express themselves in the new environment, test new ways of working with new furniture settings and workstations as a change management tool.
The story is told by use of a guide “The Hero’s Journey”. It begins by honoring the past 100 year of Warner Bros history by way of a framed view of the historic water tower on the main production lot when first entering the suite. The architecture of the building enabled a series of “sets” beginning with “Call to Adventure” – Gallery, Observation and Concierge followed by “Assembly of Characters” – Social Café, Supernatural Aid” - Tech Bar and Library, “Belly of the Whale” – Focus areas, “Road of Trials” – Desk Neighborhood and Private Office, “The Ordeal” - War Room, “Magic Flight and The Elixir” Observation area with view to the new buildings across the 134 Freeway from Studio Plaza looking to the Future.
The first neighborhood of 16 workstations and one Private office would be occupied by different work groups for a set periods of time, while the work stations and office furniture would change after several work groups have used the space. During this time questionnaires and observational data is collected to influence the final specification for the Second Century project.
