Gibbons Residence

Home to an active family, the Gibbons Residence is situated on the waterfront at the southern end of Mercer Island in Lake Washington. The home is gently nestled into the landscape with its main rooms organized parallel to the lakefront. The kitchen, dining and living spaces are organized in the same fashion, anchored by a cast-in-place concrete fireplace with a steel frame and shelf.

Clerestory windows on the wooded side of the home and a series of large glass wood framed sliding doors balance light in the spaces and provide seamless outdoor experiences, that open to an expansive wood deck shaded by a wide awning.

The interiors of the Gibbons Residence reflect the casual and active lifestyle of the family. The central element of the plan is the kitchen, with a long center island, polished concrete floors and area rugs that anchor seating areas. The ceiling and white oak beams are gently white-washed to provide a beach feeling of warmth in contrast to the concrete flooring.

The home is approached by a long winding drive to a motor court which faces the main entrance to the home. A double deep garage houses outdoor sports equipment for easy lake access.
